Alan Matheson, an attorney and founding director of the non-profit Utah Water Project, became Executive Director in December 2004. Alan has had private sector experience as a partner in a Phoenix law firm and as senior attorney for Arizona’s largest electric utility. In those positions, he gained significant experience in water policy, land use, and environmental compliance. In the community, Alan serves on the Sandy City Planning Commission and previously served as president and chairman of the board of a Community Action Agency. Alan received his A.B. in International Relations from Stanford University, and graduated from the UCLA School of Law where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review.

Since 2002, Ted has managed Envision Utah’s on-going projects, including two innovative land-use and transportation efforts: Wasatch Choices 2040, a collaborative project with two metropolitan planning organizations, incorporating public input and land-use analysis as a formal part of the federally required long-range transportation plan and the Mountain View Corridor project, an innovative EIS looking at how land-use strategies might affection regional public transportation and roadway needs in Utah’s two most urban counties. Ted was previously a senior planner with Fregonese Calthorpe Associates of Portland, where he was the project manager for Blueprint Denver and the Chicago Metropolis Plan. He is the co-author of a nationally recognized method of estimating redevelopment potential using a pro-forma parcel-based analysis. Ted has a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University.

Edward started with Envision Utah in early 2006 as an intern while completing his undergraduate degree in Urban Planning at the University of Utah. He has been involved with various projects, including Bountiful’s Historic Fort plan, Sandy City’s Historic District visioning process, Vision Dixie in Washington County, and Salt Lake City’s Downtown Rising project. Edward has a strong interest in cycling advocacy. He is currently working towards his Master’s in Urban Planning at the University of Utah, with a focus on community and urban design.

Kevin began working as the organization’s Development Director in 2001 and has focused on community relations since 2004. In this capacity, he manages an annual public awareness campaign, press releases, educational forums, ad design and placement, video production, and events management. He has over 15 years experience in the non-profit field, primarily in administration, human resources, development and public awareness. He is also a member of the West Valley City Board of Adjustment. Kevin has a B.A. in Communication Studies from UCLA and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Utah.

Jason joined us in June of 2006. He previously worked as a land-use planner for an environmental consulting firm in Salt Lake City. His experience included environmental and land-use compliance and public involvement efforts. Jason has a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee and a B.S. in Urban Planning from the University of Utah. Having completed his course work for a Masters in Urban Planning, he is currently working on his thesis.

Senior Planner
Tim Watkins

Tim Watkins specializes in computer illustration and growth cost modeling of projected development patterns. These specialties help communities better understand consequences and opportunities of trend or alternative development policies. He also helps communities explore tools to balance land preservation and land development. One of these tools, Transfer of Development Rights, was Tim’s focus while earning a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at Utah State University. Prior to joining Envision Utah in 2002, Tim worked in the public sector with the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and the Cache County-wide Planning and Development Office, and in the private sector as a planning and landscape design consultant.

Responsible for obtaining annual fund donations, sponsorships, event management, and cultivating new revenue resources, Kristine also direct the activities of the Board’s Fundraising Committee. Widner was the former Senior Development Officer for Utah Symphony & Opera; Corporate and Foundation Director for Utah Symphony; General Manager of Gina Bachauer Piano Foundation; Development/Event Director for the Utah Museum of Fine Arts; and Corporate/Foundation Underwriting Representative for KUED-TV.
Kristine’s community service activities include editor and designer of the fund-raising cookbook A Pinch of Salt Lake for the Junior League of Salt Lake City; member of the Masonic Temple Consultant Selection Committee; Utah Symphony Guild; and Utah Society of Fundraisers. She has served on the boards of directors for the Sawtooth Writers Conference; Park City/Summit County Arts Council; Utah Cultural Alliance; Salt Lake Gallery Association; Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Business Women's Forum; and the Junior League of Salt Lake City, Inc. Widner attended the University of Utah and Oregon State University.
