Entrepreneur Gary Crocker to Describe Building a Sustainable Community-Focused Business Infrastructure

"At the 16th annual Common Good Award Luncheon, entrepreneur and philanthropist Gary Crocker will speak on “Building a Sustainable Community-Focused Business Infrastructure.” The University of Utah’s Health Care System will be honored at the event on Thursday, October 27th, at the Little America Hotel (500 South Main Street) in Salt Lake City. The luncheon is from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The 2011 Envision Utah Governor’s Quality Growth Award honorees will also be highlighted. The public is welcome. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table of ten ($26 per ticket or $260 per table is tax deductible). Donations support Envision Utah’s general operations."

First Wasatch Choice for 2040 Consortium Meeting

The Envision Utah team was one of eight chosen by the Housing and Urban Development and Environmental Protection Agency to supplement the technical skills of other regions who have received HUD grants so they can make more informed decisions and enhance quality of life. In particular, the Envision Utah group will share its award-winning scenarios planning approach which has been so successful in Utah."

Provo City to Explore the Future of Its Intermodal Hub

"On Tuesday, September 27th, at 5:30 p.m., residents are invited to participate in a workshop at Provo City Hall (351 W. Center Street) to explore the future of the city’s downtown area.
The workshop will focus on the intermodal hub and the downtown area between the Hub and Center Street.
The Provo Intermodal Hub was selected as one of six sites in the region to do detailed planning work to encourage “transit-oriented development” (TOD), which is a mix of housing types, shops and office buildings within one-half mile of transit stops. American Chamber of Commerce Executives Honors Envision Utah

"At its annual convention, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) / Alliance for Regional Stewardship (ARS) honored Envision Utah with its Ten Award for Distinguished Achievement in Sustained Regional Stewardship. The Ten Award recognizes organizations that demonstrated ambitious and steadfast advancement of regional stewardship over a period of at least a decade. Envision Utah is only the second recipient to receive the award."

Envision Utah Recognized As One of 36 "Bright Ideas" Recipients by Harvard University

"Cambridge, Mass., – March 29, 2011 – Today the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, recognized 36 government initiatives as Bright Ideas recipients. This cohort of Bright Ideas addresses a host of pertinent issues including health care, education, performance management, civic engagement, and service delivery, and represents the creative and innovative programming of school districts, county, city, state, and federal agencies, as well as public-private partnerships. The programs were selected by an evaluation team of policy experts comprised of both academics and practitioners."

Elected Officials Convene for Historic Visioning Workshop—Everyone Encouraged to Get Involved

"On September 7th, over 40 elected officials from Bear Lake County and Rich County convened in a historic visioning workshop as part of the Bear Lake Valley Blueprint process. Officials from both counties and nearly all of the municipalities participated, as did Utah state senators Scott Jenkins and Peter Knudson.
The meeting was the third of nine scheduled workshops as part of the first round of public involvement. The Blueprint is a once‐in‐a‐generation opportunity to explore growth‐related issues and to think together about what residents want the region to be like in the future."

For the First Time Ever, Envision Utah Is Involved in 3 States—Simultaneously

"For the first time in its history, Envision Utah has projects underway in three states. Starting on Friday, August 13th, Envision Utah will kick-off the Bear Lake Valley Blueprint, a visioning effort in Rich County, Utah and Bear Lake County, Idaho. (The complete schedule of first-round workshops is below.)
Envision Utah is also providing technical help to the High Plains Initiative (HPI) in Goshen and Platte Counties in eastern Wyoming. While staff are still gathering information as part of the technical analysis, the first Steering Committee for HPI will be held on August 24th in Wyoming. A kick-off summit is scheduled in October and public workshops will shortly follow."

Over 4500 Voiced Their Opinions in Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow

During November, over 4,500 Utahns participated in the Wasatch Canyons Tomorrow process, which will update Salt Lake County’s master plan for the Wasatch Canyons. (Survey results are below.) Residents evaluated a range of policy scenarios dealing with watersheds, recreation, transportation and development in City Creek, Red Butte, Emigration, Parleys, Millcreek, Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons. These scenarios reflected ideas presented in more than 5,000 comments received during the first round of public involvement in May 2009 and project the long-range impacts of various policy choices.

Envision Cache Valley Survey Results: Residents Desire Walkable Towns, Open Space, and More Transportation Options

Since the public kick-off of Envision Cache Valley, hundreds of valley residents have participated, some more than once, contributing their ideas and preferences about the valley’s future. The total participation at meetings, workshops and surveys has exceeded 2,400. A survey, first used to obtain feedback on four alternative growth scenarios at 14 town hall meetings earlier this summer, was also posted online through June. Almost 650 survey responses were recorded. Results are now available at www.envisioncachevalley.com.
