Salt Lake County, realizing the ecological and environmental importance of the Great Salt Lake and the Shorelands, is working with Envision Utah to create a guiding plan to help preserve the critical lands and minimize impacts from potential growth. Through this process, key stakeholders will work together to identify which natural areas should be protected, where parks and trails should be located, and where appropriate quality development may occur. Once a consensus is reached, community leaders will pass local ordinances and implement inter-local agreements that effectuate the plan. During the summer of 2002, initial research and analysis will be conducted. The community visioning process will begin fall 2002.

Envision Utah facilitated a transit-oriented development study for the city center area. This study was presented to a joint Planning Commission and City Council meeting in 2004 and subsequently added to the general plan.

This study is shaping the revitalization plans of West Valley City's downtown.
