Development of Quality of Growth Strategy

Development of Quality Growth Strategy – With the results of from Envision Utah's Alternative Growth Scenario survey, Envision Utah identified six initial goals to form the basis for a draft Quality Growth Strategy:
- Enhance Air Quality
- Preserve Open Space & Agricultural Lands
- Conserve and Maintain Availability of Water Resources
- Promote Mobility and Transportation Choices
- Maximize Efficiency in Public & Infrastructure Investments
- Provide housing opportunities for a range of family and income types
Envision Utah spent the next six months developing potential implementation strategies to support the goals identified through the public participation process. We involved key stakeholders (planning officials, elected officials, developers, business leaders, conservationists, and church and citizen groups) to provide us with realistic ideas for implementation for their community. Envision Utah hosted 50 town meetings with over 500 participants, and 3 regional workshops with over 800 participants, to review potential implementation strategies.
In addition, Envision Utah conducted a housing analysis to the year 2020 as a means of gauging the needs and wants of the Greater Wasatch Area's current and future residents.
Envision Utah, QGET, and the national consultants modeled the Quality Growth Strategy based on the draft quality growth goals and strategies, input from the housing demand analysis and public meetings.
With the technical modeling complete, Envision Utah conducted its second public awareness campaign to educate and inform residents regarding the goals and strategies identified in the Quality Growth Strategy and to get final input for the strategy. The campaign included press tours to media representatives from television and newspapers, television and radio spots educating the public regarding key strategies identified by Envision Utah. A newspaper insert with a survey, inviting residents to share their views on the final product, was delivered to 363,500 Utah households outlining the Quality Growth Strategy.
